GLOSSARY

MTA
Mail Transfer Agent. Generally the mail server you use to send/receive email.
MUA
Mail User Agent. The program you use to check your email. Also referred to as the email client.
Post
send send a message to a mailing list for distribution
Digest
many messages compiled into a single email, generally sent out once a day.
Subscribe
to add a address to a list
Unsubscribe
to delete a address from a list
Bounce
a undeliverable email that has been returned to a list
Archive
a collection of past list messages
Email Client
the program you use to check and send email.
VERP
Variable Envelope Return Paths, a inefficient method of sending list email but does handle bounces better. Not currently an option at Listserve.com.
Header
A part of email that is mostly hidden from you, the headers of a message contain a variety of information. Whenever you have an issue with email it's best to have the full headers available when you contact support.
Umbrella List
a list that has other lists as its members.
